Towards carbon neutrality by 2050
Combating greenhouse gas emissions for a more sustainable industry
As a responsible and committed manufacturer, NTN Europe is following an ambitious roadmap: to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
This objective is fully embedded in the company’s strategy and impacts all levels of the organisation. It is an ambition shared by the group, which is focused on a more responsible, more fluid and truly harmonised industry.
An ambitious plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050
NTN Europe has set itself the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, a commitment that is now at the heart of the company's strategy and is being rolled out at all levels. This initiative is based on a comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable approach, making decarbonisation a major strategic focus. It aims to reduce CO₂ emissions, preserve natural resources and limit NTN Europe's environmental footprint.
To support this initiative, an €8 million investment programme is planned between 2024 and 2030.
ISO 50001 certification
This ambition is based on the application of ISO 50001 certification and the implementation of several measures, including:
• a structured energy policy,
• the appointment of energy advisors at each site,
• measurable performance targets,
• the implementation of corrective actions,
• continuous monitoring and evaluation of results
What is carbon neutrality?
Achieving carbon neutrality means balancing the greenhouse gas emissions produced and absorbed. This involves:
• Reducing emissions at source
• Offsetting unavoidable residual emissions
The priority is to reduce before offsetting and taking action throughout the entire life cycle of our products: manufacturing, use, end of life.

A plan structured around three scopes with a target date of 2050
For NTN, carbon neutrality is achieved by reducing its emissions by 90% and offsetting the remaining 10%.
To achieve this goal, NTN is following a structured roadmap and taking action simultaneously in three areas:

Scope 1
direct carbon emissions
generated by NTN Europe sites
(mainly heating)

Scope 2
Carbon emissions linked to
electricity consumption

Scope 3
LIndirect emissions from suppliers, transport, use and end-of-life of products.
Carbon neutrality is a strategic milestone that is transforming our industrial model in a sustainable way.
Scopes 1 & 2 - Taking action at our industrial sites
and with our electricity suppliers
50% reduction in emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2035
To achieve this goal, NTN is implementing a series of measures aimed at reducing the direct impact of its activities. The main measures are:
• Optimisation of industrial processes to improve energy efficiency.
• Increased use and production of renewable energy in production plants.
• Implementation of energy efficiency projects to reduce consumption and emissions.
Concrete actions already undertaken by the group

Installation of adiabatic cooling towers
To reduce CO₂ emissions and decrease water consumption at production sites:
• Argonay (France): -184 tonnes of CO₂e/year
• Seynod (France): -79.6 tonnes of CO₂e/year

Waste heat recovery
• Recovery of heat generated by compressed air production to meet hot water needs. Sibiu (Romania): elimination of 17 boilers.
Sibiu (Roumanie) : suppression de 17 chaudières.
• Recovery of heat from heat treatment furnaces, used to heat industrial buildings.

Optimisation of boiler control
This optimisation measure, based on water laws, has reduced CO₂ emissions by 232 tonnes per year and gas consumption for heating by 70% in Seynod (France).

Deployment of photovoltaic panels
• ICSA (Italy): -720 tonnes of CO₂e/year
• Sibiu (Romania): Project planned for 2026 with an investment of €500,000 and a target of 660 tonnes of CO₂ per year

Construction of a new headquarter
This eco-friendly building, located in Annecy (France) and built using timber-frame structure , incorporates high energy performance standards. Estimated impact: –380 tCO₂e/year.

LED lighting at production sites
400 tonnes of CO₂ saved per year.

Carbon-free vehicle fleet
• Switch to ethanol-powered vehicles in Brazil.
• Logistics links in the Alpine region (France), with 100% electric trucks operated by XPO Logistics, avoiding 129 tonnes of CO₂ per year (–93% reduction).

Purchase of low-carbon electricity
Supplying the Curitiba site (Brazil) with 100 % renewable electricity.
Scope 3 - Acting on the value chain: suppliers,
transport, and product use and end of life
15% reduction in emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050
• Select steel suppliers committed to a low-carbon approach.
• Collaboration with steel suppliers to reduce emissions fourfold by 2040 compared to 2025.
• Optimise logistics to reduce emissions linked to the transport of raw materials and finished products.
• Optimise the energy performance of our products and develop eco-design.
• Work on the circularity of our products, particularly the recycled material content, refurbishment and recyclability.
Steel and the choice of steelworks: the main challenge for NTN
Steel accounts for 60% of our products' carbon footprint. Reducing the impact of this raw material is therefore crucial for NTN in order to achieve carbon neutrality. Our strategic choices:
• Further improve our already virtuous panel by favouring steelmakers that use electric arc furnaces and recycled materials
• Favour sites dependent on countries with carbon-free electricity
• Build stronger partnerships with steelmakers committed to sustainable transition
• Using coke-free steel production via technologies that reduce ore using green hydrogen (DRI, etc.)
