Our commitment to the environment

Taking action to protect the planet

On the road to carbon neutrality

At NTN Europe, protecting the environment is an absolute priority. We integrate environmental issues into the heart of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. Our objective: to reduce our environmental impact while providing innovative solutions for sustainable mobility and the responsable use of resources.

Environnement ambition

Our environmental and energy ambitions

In response to today's environmental and energy challenges, we are committed to:

  • Do everything possible to reduce our impact on the environment, in particular our consumption of resources, our discharges, our waste and our energy consumption.
  • Contribute to greener mobility byimproving the energy performance of our products
  • Putting the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the heart of our organisations to achieve carbon neutrality.

Reducing the impact of our activities on the environment

Responsible water management

Water is a precious resource that we are committed to preserving. To this end, we have taken concrete steps to limit our water consumption and optimise our industrial processes. By 2023, we have reduced our consumption by 8,5% on the previous year.

Our actions to preserve water:

  • Optimising cooling circuits
  • Use of technological innovations
  • Proactive monitoring

Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

The fight against greenhouse gas emissions is a major issue in our environmental and energy policy. NTN Europe is committed to significantly reducing its emissionsby 55% by 2026 (scopes 1 and 2) compared to 2018 levels. We are taking action in several areas to achieve this ambitious objective:

  • Improving energy efficiency at our production sites.
  • Reducing direct emissions by optimising industrial processes and using less polluting technologies.
  • Transition to renewable energies for some of our facilities.

By the end of 2024, we had reduced our C0(2) emissions on scopes 1 and 2 by 47% compared with 2018, demonstrating our concrete commitment to helping to combat global warming.

These results are part of a carbon neutrality plan aimed at achieving carbon neutrality for scopes 1 and 2 by 2035 and total neutrality by 2050.

Electricity reduction

Reducing electricity consumption

We have adopted a proactive approach to improving our energy efficiency. Since 2021, we have reduced the energy intensity of our facilities by 14.4%. Our sites are ISO 50001 certified for energy management, enabling us to identify and implement sustainable solutions.

The initiatives we have put in place include:

  • Optimising industrial equipment to reduce electricity consumption.
  • Switching to renewable energy sources for some of our facilities, in particular with the installation of photovoltaic panels to cover 20 to 30% of our consumption.
  • Installation of intelligent energy management systems for real-time control.

Waste recovery

We have made waste management a central part of our environmental policy. By 2024, 98.4% of our waste had been recovered, either through reuse, recycling or energy conversion.

Our waste recovery efforts include:

  • Systematic selective sorting at our production sites.
  • Raw materials reuse programme, aimed at reducing the use of virgin materials.
  • Collaboration with partners specialising in industrial waste recycling.

reduction in atmospheric emissions

Reducing atmospheric emissions

In recent years, we have taken a voluntary approach to reducing atmospheric emissions linked to the four pollutants most representative of our activities, including VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and NOx (nitrogen oxides).

Actions undertaken:

  • Modernising our heating systems and optimising the management of our gas consumption, in particular by recovering waste heat from our processes: the aim is to heat 50% of our current buildings using this recovery method.
  • Setting up efficient air treatment systems in our plants

Contributing to greener mobility

Improving energy efficiency and sustainable design

We design bearings and mechanical components that combine performance and longevity, while reducing their environmental impact.

Our work on the energy performance of bearings and the reduction of friction improves the efficiency of equipment and indirectly reduces the emissions associated with the use of our products. Our low-friction bearings play a key role in reducing energy consumption. They minimise mechanical losses in machines and vehicles, particularly in electric vehicles where optimising range is crucial.

Thanks to high-quality materials and advanced technologies, our products are designed to withstand wear and tear and operate for longer.

By developing products that perform better and last longer, we help to reduce our customers' environmental footprint while improving the durability of their equipment.

Contribution to the circular economy

Contributing to the circular economy: from eco-design to remanufacturing

NTN Europe is committed to the circular economy by adopting eco-design and renovation practices. For example, we use recycled plastics in our eco-friendly suspension bumpers, reducing the carbon footprint associated with the production of virgin materials.

At the same time, our maintenance and repair (MRO) services extend the life of railway and aerospace bearings, reducing the need for frequent replacement, minimising waste and maximising the use of resources. We also carry out remanufacturing initiatives for automotive spare parts, in particular used suspensions, by reintroducing reconditioned components.

This minimises the consumption of raw materials while maintaining high performance standards. These actions are part of a sustainable approach aimed at extending product life and reducing environmental impact.

On the road to carbon neutrality

Our ambition is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, by taking action across our entire value chain. This means achieving neutrality on scopes 1 and 2 by 2035, through a significant reduction in our greenhouse gas emissions based on the energy optimisation of our sites, the transition to renewable energies and the continuous improvement of our industrial processes. At the same time, we are also working on scope 3, by engaging our suppliers and partners in responsible initiatives and developing more energy-efficient products.
